Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) is a risk assessment techniques used to demonstrate compliance with health, safety and environmental standards and legislation. Although HAZOP techniques have traditionally been applied to the process and oil/gas industries, they can be equally applied to other industries, activities and tasks. Ideally HAZOP techniques should be applied at the project development stage as part of the project HSE plan, but can also be applied for existing systems/processes as well as for process modifications. In a chemical industry, it is widely recognized that the application of systematic hazard studies can greatly assist in a proactive approach to identify such hazards and the quantitative assessments to aide in indicating which control measures may be necessary.
Many potential problems can be identify by the examination of new, modified or existing designs, procedures and operations using the systematic and structures approach. HAZOP provide measure of assurance through a structured and systematic examination of the design and operability of a system that the process design will be safe. HAZOP is a highly structured technique, which can consume considerable resources to achieve an effective study. Therefore, the role of the Team Leader is crucial in directing resources where they are most
needed so that the study duration is targeted for efficiency. This HAZOP training helps to ensure effectiveness in HAZOP studies required from skilled leaders and Engineers as well as experienced and committed team member.

This seminar is designed to provide the participants with the necessary skills and framework to guide the HAZOP team members through the initial stages of the analysis to the production of a HAZOP report and action plan. Attendees revise the basics of HAZOP and the response required for HAZOP to be effective. Organization, leadership and management including post action procedures are covered. The course is highly interactive. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to hands-on activities.
